Brett Svendsen is a Councillor for the Shire of Livingstone in Central Queensland.

Livingstone is the Shire responsible for the land on which the Shoalwater Bay (Military) Training Area (SWBTA) is situated.

Many of you are aware that Operation Talisman Sabre 2007, a joint training exercise between Australian and US forces, is due to begin at SWBTA later this year.

Join us at Shoalwater Bay for a week of community action against war and war games.

Talisman Sabre is set to start at the end of May for six weeks! The live firing and field component begins June 19. Bookings have started for camping at the caravan park in Yeppoon in preparation for the planned activities and actions during the Peace Convergence. If you are planning to come to Shoalwater for the Peace Convergence please book accommodation now.

Regional groups around the country have been organising films nights, public talks, concerts and other events to raise awareness about Talisman Sabre. If you would like to get involved in a group contact a rep in your area.

I write to you today to express my deep concerns about the US/Australian "Military Games".

Of course, I understand that our Aussie troops need to undergo adequate and thorough training to equip them with the skills needed to defend our country against any form of aggressive invasion. Of course, our troops need training before being placed in harms way.

However, I do not agree that my taxes and the taxes of other Australians should be "splashed about" to further advance the US's military build up in the Pacific.
